SiS: REMARKABLE Wyo. Eden Valley Petrified Wood Round -Loaded With Gold Calcite!

Regular price $112.00

This showy, larger sized specimen is actually a cross section slab cut from a petrified log that comes from one of my favorite petrified wood deposits.  You cannot really gain a full appreciation for how amazing this unique cut is simply from the photos, but in hand this one is really fascinating.  The entire specimen took a beautiful, deep polish and the shimmering, light catching golden yellow calcite combined with well defined wood structure to really show what makes specimens from this site so prized!  Both the well preserved fossilized wood and the golden calcite are framed in lots of translucent blue/gray agate that helped freeze a moment in time long forgotten - until now!   It's a lovely, nicely shaped round with great wood preservation in a black coffee color scheme with perfect structure under magnification.  The log has been at least half replaced with larges masses of golden calcite crystal that formed in desiccation splits in the log. The display face is polished to a mirror finish.  It's a very nice specimen from the end of a nice, perfectly preserved log!

NOTE:  The second photo is taken from a mate cut off of the same log.  It is included to show edge detail and finish quality which are virtually identical in this slab but difficult to capture reliably in a photo.

Here's an absolutely beautiful petrified wood round cut from the center of a gorgeous log that's got a lot of high contrast color patterns showing throughout the perfectly preserved log frozen inside. It has really nice wood preservation with a very well defined heart in the center of the log and it's very highly agatized! The wood is exceptionally preserved and shows the cells very clearly all the way through the specimen!

This wood comes from Eden Valley, the same deposit that contains Wyoming's famed Blue Forest wood. It is a uniquely preserved bed of small branches and occasional logs in central Wyoming. The digging is hot and dusty, but every once in a while you stumble on a real treasure and this big log is one of them! The dark black coffee and cream colors the wood is preserved in are characteristic of these specimens, as are the infusions of agate that filled the cracks and coated the log!

This is a perfectly flat slice from the center of a nice log from a pepperwood tree. It's been cut and polished to show off all the gemmy detail from this 50 million year old treasure captured inside. It took a pretty awesome polish - something we strive to produce on every specimen we put our name on! The fibrous cell structure of the radial wood grain is exceptional and easily studied with a hand lens.

This is a larger sized specimen, and it is close to perfect - something that will show proudly in any collection.

It measures about 9" x 6" across the mirror polished face and is cut at a slight taper that goes from about 0.36" to 0.44" thick.  Weight is 1.38 lbs.

A nice, unique naturally wonderful stone collectible exclusively from Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary.
