This is one of the most perfectly shaped sets of bookends I've recently cut, but when you see the glorious color pattern in this fascinating fossil wood you are really going to be amazed!! The stunning color in these stones is completely natural and in my experience, completely unprecedented in stone!! The rind is the result of a log that had been transported in water and smoothed into driftwood before it was petrified. It now has a beautiful smooth texture and contrasting patina color that just makes for a truly perfect set of petrified wood bookends! This cut revealed a long arch arranged series of sparkling drusy quartz geode cavities that likely formed where the log had decayed before being petrified! This is a medium sized and extremely colorful, perfectly cut set of bookends from a choice petrified wood log from Madagascar! One of the most beautiful and completely natural works of art I've seen in ages! We have worked every trick we know to extract a mirror perfect shining finish from these perfectly matched stones the likes of which you have never seen in a commercial shop - I promise! As beautiful as they are ancient, they are guaranteed to be completely unique and forever captivating!
We purchased some new logs this year from a new miner at the wholesale shows and I'm really excited by the wonderful color in these nicely preserved specimens! The color variations preserved in the wood grain are unmatched by any log I've cut from this forest and that intense green center rivals malachite! If you haven't seen Sticks-in-Stones petrified wood before, this is one you should consider - it's a great way to see what sets our specimens apart from the masses! The polish is brilliant and wet looking and shows all of the color and wood structure the way it ought to be!!
This gorgeous, absolutely choice petrified wood is the latest in a series of really nice, very colorful pieces that we've cut from some nice, larger logs we obtained this year in Tucson. I met a new miner this year that brought some petrified logs in from this distant island nation and what he had was by far the best I'd seen in many, many years. Very nice, brilliantly colored logs hand selected for wood structure and eye appeal. I bought several and couldn't wait to start cutting. This log is the first in the series and the color really is remarkable!
The agatized wood is a really rich combination of colors in natural, high contrast tones that show well in the wet looking polished face. Most of what is found in this rich deposit is Araucaria but I can't tell enough about this wood to say that's what it really is. It's incredibly well agatized, crafted like only Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary can, and will make a fantastic natural treasure to add to your home or office, or make a once in a lifetime gift for a special graduate!
We select only the showiest pieces of petrified wood to cut into bookends. These pieces are carefully cut in our shop so that you end up with a perfectly matched pair, one agate piece is the mirror image of the other. Of course, there are plenty of differences in the two halves, but the photo should let you appreciate how well we do this. The bookends sit perfectly upright and are completely square to one another. They are felted on both the sides and bottom to protect the books and the shelf. We make sure they are 100%25 functional on top of being beautiful! Of course, these agates proudly show the perfect polish that the Sticks-in-Stones rockshop has dedicated itself to. The finish looks poured on - but there's nothing there except rock!! This is the only set of really red bookends we have cut from this location so don't miss this fabulous natural treasure!
Each half measures about 6 1/8" tall & 5 1/4" wide at the widest spot on the polished face. They're cut roughly 1 3/4" thick. Weight for this set is about 6.94 lbs. which makes these bookends suitable for books like novels, and the typical textbooks but a bit small for encyclopedia sized books. What better way to accentuate a bookshelf, desk or your mantle than with this unbelievable natural work of art! Good luck!
Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary is happily providing UPS & USPS shipping to greatly reduce shipping charges on large rock orders. We will combine auction items or provide additional items from our shop to bring you the greatest possible value in fine Lapidary & stone collectibles!
