SiS: HUGE 14" POLISHED Stinking Water Oak Petrified Wood Slab - AMAZING SPECIMEN

Regular price $319.00

Here's the latest petrified wood display piece from the Sticks in Stones rockshop!  Our polish is not only beautiful, it's so flawless you can see every detail this fossil treasure has to show!  Just look at those stunning medullary rays, easily visible annual rings and the ring porous cells that make this one unmistakably oak!  This richly colored petrified wood slab comes from the Stinking Water Creek area in Eastern Oregon.  This is the classic "golden oak" that made this site famous.  It remains one of the single most highly sought after varieties of petrified wood found anywhere on the planet.  It was one of my own first loves though pieces are now very seldom seen and we do not get enough chances to work with it.  This gorgeous, gem grade slab came to us as part of the Beck collection and we finished cutting it and prepared it in our shop to provide an opportunity for a truly colletible piece of natural fossil art!  This slab represents a partial cross section from what must have been an enormous oak trunk (I have see some in excess of 30" in diameter from this famed fossil forest).  It's as richly colored and beautiful as this wood gets.  There was a decay area near the heart of the log that filled in with some unusual and attractive white agate in the rot pores of the decaying wood.  I've never seen this in Stinking Water oak previously and it is quite fascinating.  We polished this gorgeous piece to a mirror finish right here in our shop, ready to display in your own home, office, or collection!

The name "Stinking Water" raises chuckles from most folks, but quickly catches the interest of serious wood collectors around the world. Oregon's Stinking Water Pass has produced what are arguably the finest fossil oak trees ever found anywhere. The incredible preservation of the red and white oak wood combined with the gorgeous golden colors make this one of the most sought after fossil woods anywhere. This exceptional specimen was among the finest that a local gentlemen had dug decades ago. The agatization and color is classic Stinking Water with the gold, white, brown, tan and black colors along with the characteristically detailed wood grain so perfectly preserved. Like most Stinking Water Oak petrified wood, this piece is very highly agatized! The high agate content means that this piece has polished up beautifully. It's just amazing how beautiful petrified wood can be and the fine oak specimens found in this remote Eastern Oregon desert location are among the finest in the world.

This piece has fabulous cell structure and unbelievable medullary rays (you can see them as the vertical lines in the photo). If you want an unmistakable and beautiful white oak specimen in your collection, this one would be a dandy!
