This is one of the more unusual McDermitt piece we've prepared in recent years. This wood was actually found on the surface of a remote part of the McDermitt caldera and shows significant weathering on the sides of the stone. It's a very highly agatized piece of petrified wood, and this one is rip cut (with, not across the grain) to reveal some really amazing wood grain patterns. The flowing wood grain is rich and well preserved in solid wood tone agate! The color is naturally wood toned and would make a wonderful, ancient and natural decorator piece, but the shape of this one also suggests charcuterie board. It is dishwasher safe and could be used as a very unique serving platter as well! It took a very nice polish and really does look great. Only Sticks-in-Stones can offer specimens so perfectly polished that they can reveal both their aesthetic beauty and their fossils secrets so flawlessly!
NOTE: The second and third photos are from mate cut pieces sliced from the same log. They are included to show edge detail and finish quality which are virtually identical in this piece but difficult to reliably capture in a photo.
This is a really beautiful specimen of the petrified wood found in a desolate sagebrush desert that spans over 100 square miles on the Oregon/Nevada border. It's a slice from a perfectly preserved hardwood, with absolutely gorgeous gem quality agate in rich, dark colors preserving this ancient fossil. The inside is a richly colored array of gem quality agate that preserved the wood grain beautifully in every detail! The wood structure in this attractive fossil specimen are amazingly well preserved all the way through the log. This piece was found in a remote corner of the caldera while exploring - it's not from one of the more often dug sites.
This excellent round comes from one of Oregon's premier petrified wood deposits known to collectors the world over. If you don't have a specimen from this area, this would be a dandy to get you acquainted!! This specimen has been carefully polished to show off all the gemmy detail inside. It took a beautiful polish and has excellent gem color! It's another one of those beautiful fossil treasures that some happy Sticks-in-Stones customer is going to flip over! This rip cut slab measures about 13 3/4" x 5" wide and is cut approx. 0.80" thick. Display stand shown is sold separately. Weight is 4.14 lbs. A nice, unique naturally wonderful stone collectible exclusively from Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary.
