SiS: FASCINATING WILD & PINK 10 lb. Australian Chert Breccia Bookends ONE TIME!

Regular price $149.00

This fascinating stone is the last piece we have from this unique and visually intriguing stone from Australia.  When I cut into that large, perfectly formed banded stone in the bottom part of the boulder I knew this would make an incredible set of bookends!  It's the only set of bookends we have ever crafted from this stone and I do not have any more of the rough so this is truly a one of a kind, one time offering!

This is a lovely and unusually colored, polished, fully functional set of bookends cut from a very solid and very colorful stone mined in Australia!  While most mine owners would come up with a whimsical or catchy name for such an unusual stone, this down to earth Australian miner simply calls it Chert Breccia which is a technically accurate if not artistic name.  I saw this stone for the first time a few years ago in Tucson and was fascinated by the endless pattern of innumerable pebbles that had morphed into this solid, beautifully colored gemstone.  The sand that eventually hardened to lock everything together deep within the earth had a slightly pinkish hue and the red color present in so many of the stones make this pretty stone almost look like candy.  It's a completely natural formation and the saw cut reveals a huge variety of the stones that worked together to become one large, very solid, highly polished mosaic of natural art.  This display faces of these bookends are polished to a mirror like finish the likes of which we produce every day on every specimen we sell - you'll soon see what sets our stones apart in the reflection!  The sides are rough and natural, just as it came from the mine, while the base, book contact side and back are all flat.  The book and shelf contact sides are covered with black felt to protect your other surfaces.

In the mine owners words, this breccia consists of innumerable angular fragments of assorted rock types but is made up predominantly of jasper, quartz and chert.  It occurs in the Pinyalling Hills which are located in the midwest region of Western Australia, approximately 200 miles north of Perth.

We cut and polished these bookends in our own rockshop right here in the Pacific Northwest.  We've coaxed a nice finish from the stone that allows it to be appreciated in its full glory.  We're confident that once you've seen the difference in the Sticks-in-Stones finish, you'll develop a much more critical eye for the stones you choose to decorate with or add to your own collection!  These bookends are fully functional and cut to form a perfect mirror image of one another.

This stone was cut thick and polished on a specially designed flat lap to bring out all that gorgeous color! It's ready to be put to work in your home, office, or library.  This set of bookends stands about 6 5/8" tall by 5 7/8" wide (each piece).  They are cut about 1 3/4" thick.  Weight for this set is about 9.64 lbs. which makes these bookends suitable for medium and larger sized books from novels up through the typical textbook.
