SiS: DARK BLUE & GOLD 13" Hubbard Basin Petrified Wood Round - PREMIUM SLAB!

Regular price $212.00

This is a pretty, very highly agatized, very dark blue slab cut from one of the most colorful petrified wood varieties found anywhere.  The color approaches ink and coffee hues in the most translucent regions with gold, white and rust accents that really set the stone off.  There is a huge variety of subtle color patterns in this beautifully prepared display slab.  It comes from Hubbard Basin Nevada and it has some great blue agate with rust, gold, black and white accents.  This appears to be a full round in a nice collector sized display specimen with a truly world class finish.  The rind is nearly complete and a beautiful chalk white color that contrasts really nicely with the polished dark agate face.  The back is cut smooth and flat but unpolished and of course we've polished the display face of this piece to a mirror shine like all of the world class petrified wood collectibles we offer.  Good luck!

Here's an absolutely gorgeous, hard to come by petrified wood round from one of the most prized petrified wood deposits ever discovered! If you aren't familiar with the Hubbard Basin petrified wood from Nevada, you should be! It's a very colorful variety, though not plentiful so the pieces aren't often found (or seen). This piece has all of the best colors that these coveted specimens are famous for. The characteristic blue, white and gold along with a lot of other colors appear to have been painted into the stone with the single intention of drawing a gasp from the fossil wood collector on sight!

Besides being beautifully colored, it's also perfectly preserved. The flowing wood grain from this complete round starts at the heart and fans out through every part of this highly colorful wood. Hubbard Basin petrified wood is highly prized among fossil and gemstone collectors because of it's uniquely beautiful blue color and gold, red, etc. inclusions. It's also some of the best agatized wood to be found and is sometimes even translucent. This piece appears to be from a conifer and the cell structure is visible in several areas. Most (but not all) of the specimens found in this lost forest are petrified spruce.

This is a medium sized log cross section of petrified wood. This round is reasonably complete, and nicely sized although most of these specimens were from softer wood species and like their cousins in Cherry Creek (Nevada's other famous deposit) they tended to get "squashed" in the ground typically forming distorted rounds when cut.

If you haven't seen our petrified wood specimens before then you've been missing one of the best treasures found on eBay! We work hard to find the best specimens from the most prized locations and then work with our magic to create a world class specimen for your collection. The piece is quite solid and meant to be handled. A quick squirt of Windex will remove fingerprints from the glassy, mirror polished surface.

This stone has been professionally polished on a special lap that produces a flat face and a mirror perfect shine. We obtained this round at a local show a couple of years ago and reworked the commercial finish to produce a world class specimen featuring the Sticks-in-Stones polish worthy of a place in your own collection. The polish really is liquid perfect - a difference in the quality products Sticks-in-Stones has built its reputation on!

It measures 12 7/8" x 5 1/4" wide on the polished face. It is cut about 1/2" thick. Weight is 2.2 lbs.

Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary is happily providing UPS & USPS shipping to greatly reduce shipping charges on large rock orders. We will combine auction items or provide additional items from our shop to bring you the greatest possible value in fine Lapidary & stone collectibles!
