This is a really beautiful and naturally colored petrified wood slab cut from a choice petrified wood log from Madagascar! The vast majority of the petrified logs found in Madagascar are very monochromatic and lacking any kind of color or pattern, but this one tiny deposit is producing some of the most amazingly colorful wood I've seen from anywhere on the planet! The natural color variations preserved in the wood grain are unmatched by any log I've cut from this forest and they work together to form a very earthy color palette that is quite pleasing to the eye and guaranteed to fit into virtually any natural decor. The wood grain from this ancient fossil conifer is revealed in dramatic detail in the mirror polished face to produce a truly remarkable work of natural art! We've just about exhausted our supply of these wonderful specimens so don't miss a chance at a nice one! This gorgeous, absolutely choice petrified wood round is the latest in a series of really nice, very colorful rounds that we've cut from some short logs we obtained last year in Tucson. This round isn't the typical Pacific Northwest treasure that we specialize in either. It's kind of a long story, but hey, this is a Sticks-in-Stones write-up after all :-) A few years ago I met some young men that were just starting to import stone from Madagascar. They had been mining petrified logs (among other gemstones) in a remote part of the country, and the logs that they were unloading from their truck were far more colorful than anything I'd seen from this vast petrified forest previously. I ended up purchasing several of them in the hopes that they would cut some nice bookends. I was completely blown away the first time I opened the saw and found this incredible color waiting for my eyes to see! The following year I purchased more of the logs from these guys and cut still more amazing specimens and some of the most colorful bookends I've ever had the pleasure of working on. The wood is very hard and takes a magnificent polish, and the color just seems to keep getting better! Each slab came out nearly perfect with very little of the fracturing you see in the more common grades of petrified wood from this forest. It really is that different, and that gorgeous! In this case I've cut one of the most colorful rounds yet and prepared it with a mirror finish, ready for your cabinet to show off all of that completely natural color in this ancient gem fossil. The heart is clearly visible and there are several crystal lined cavities that open up on the surface. It's a striking Madagascar wood round sure to enhance any collection! . It's just amazing how beautiful petrified wood can be and this fine specimen found halfway around the world shows to what lengths people will go to bring these treasures to market! If you don't own a top grade piece form this increasingly important deposit yet in your own collection, this is your chance. This is a perfect round cut from the center of a nice sized log. This stone has been professionally polished on a special lap that produces a flat face and a mirror perfect shine. The polish really is liquid perfect - a difference in the quality products Sticks-in-Stones has built its reputation on! It measures about 9 1/4" across the mirror polished face. It's cut about 0.55" thick. Weight is 2.40 lbs. Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary is happily providing UPS & USPS shipping to greatly reduce shipping charges on large rock orders. We will combine auction items or provide additional items from our shop to bring you the greatest possible value in fine Lapidary & stone collectibles!
