If you can get past the poor photos I promise you're in for a special treat! This is an extra-large sized stand-up sculpture of 100% natural, brilliantly polished petrified wood from Madagascar! This isn't the low grade imported material you see so often on the market with the dull, lifeless finish. This a true Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary original and it features all of the color and magnificent wood grain revealed in our unmatched mirror perfect polish! This large display piece features some very unusual but easy to decorate with natural colors! You simply don't find petrified wood with more beauty in it than this, and the agate content is so high that it polished like the true natural gemstone that it is. This piece is cut from the end of one of the most solid and well preserved logs we obtained from this distant island nation. This cut was so beautiful I had to leave it in tact to show the nearly full log cross section that was revealed in such glorious detail. Even the exterior rind is really cool - it's much more interesting than the washed out photo suggests! It is cut from some of the new wood I acquired in recent years from a new mine operating in the region and it has already provided several museum grade pieces like this! We were fortunate to be able to obtain several truly amazing logs that are cutting some of the nicest petrified wood I've had the pleasure of working with for many years. This piece is ready to display in your home or office as a natural standing sculpture. The front is mirror polished while the back (last photo) is cut smooth and unfinished.
In this case, I cut a larger sized, short log to produce some of the nicest Madagascar stand-up display specimens I've ever seen! When cut properly, an experienced lapidary can apply some of the craftsmanship I've learned over the years to avoid problems with flaked out fracture lines that are common in the imported specimens. I've also polished it to a much higher quality luster than you find on the imported varieties. The polish really is liquid perfect - a difference in the quality products Sticks-in-Stones has built its reputation on!
It measures about 11" x 10" across the widest point of the mirror polished face. It's a maximum of about 3 3/4" thick at the base. Weight is about 18 lbs.
