This is an extra large and gorgeous set of bookends suitable for a mantle or very nicely decorated office or library!
This is a very rare find from one of the most famous and prized of all petrified wood collecting spots - it's actually a petrified log preserved in glorious, colorful agate! It's cast in the most amazing and beautiful combination of colors with blue, white, black and gold color accenting the ancient rip cut wood grain. Truly beautiful and 100% the work of mother nature! This log is shows a rot cavity in the center that only makes the ancient wonder of this amazing stone all the more fascinating! The wood grain is preserved in a very unique "brush stroke" sort of pattern in the center of the face to form a gorgeous, perfectly book-matched display - just stunning!! At nearly 19 lbs. this is the single largest set of Hubbard Basin petrified wood bookends we've offered this year. Guaranteed to be even better than you expect!!
One of the most incredibly colored petrified wood deposits in the world is in Nevada in a remote chunk of desert called Hubbard Basin. We've obtained some exceptional pieces from collections that originated near this site over the last few years and I've recently prepared some choice ones. This is one of my favorite materials to use in bookends as it is so richly colored and every set is completely different from the last. This wood is unmatched by any other in the world. The colors are unmistakable with blue, red, gold, black, white and other shades all preserving the rings and knots of an ancient spruce forest. The agate is so superb in these rare petrified logs that the polish comes out looking wet to the touch when prepared properly!
In this fabulous set the wood grain is delicately preserved and visible to the naked eye in throughout each bookend! The color spectrum is amazing - it covers most of the shades you'll see at Hubbard Basin in one set of bookends! We select only the largest and showiest pieces of petrified wood to cut into bookends. These pieces are carefully cut in our shop so that you end up with a perfectly matched pair, one agate piece is the mirror image of the other. Of course, there are plenty of differences in the two halves, but the photo should let you appreciate how well we do this. The bookends sit perfectly upright and are completely square to one another. They are felted on both the sides and bottom to protect the books and the shelf. We make sure they are 100% functional on top of being beautiful! Of course, these agates proudly show the perfect polish that the Sticks-in-Stones rockshop has dedicated itself to. The finish looks poured on - but there's nothing there except rock!!
This is a giant sized set. Each half measures about 10 3/4" tall & 7" wide across the polished face. They're cut about 1.7" thick. Weight for this set is about 19.56 lbs. which makes these bookends suitable for novels, text books, law books, cook books or just about any sized book you have. What better way to accentuate a bookshelf or your mantle than with this unbelievable natural work of art from eBay's Original Rockshop! Good luck!
