RARE & EXOTIC Gorgeous 9" Petrified Wood Slab from Turkey - Beautiful Fossil Conifer!

Regular price $0.00

This absolutely breathtaking petrified wood specimen is one of the newest and most exotic samples we have seen recently from yet another distant corner of the planet! The petrified wood in Turkey has become a hot collectible item with the most sought after (and expensive) pieces being the "colla" wood which is laced with colorful minerals including bright greens and blues inspired by the presence of copper in the form of chrysocolla. The best pieces are offered with 5 figure price tags that make it out of reach for most collectors. This gorgeous example of fossil conifer however is far more affordable and one of the most visually striking pieces of petrified wood you'll see from the Turkey fossil wood deposits. While the stone is still relatively pricey, we are able to offer this beautiful, nearly full round specimen prepared as only our shop can at an every day collector price. The rich, dark colors in this piece are brought to life by a mirror finish that reveals every fine detail of the intricate fossil conifer structure including growth rings that are easily visible to the naked eye. The log is preserved in a mixture of hard agate and softer minerals that is admittedly puzzling to ponder exactly how the log was preserved and in what state, but the beauty of the final product is undeniable. The more gray areas are soft and do not polish to the same mirror finish that the more colorful areas do which actually seems to work to make a truly visually captivating work of natural art that begs to steal your gaze! Prepared in our shop, the finish makes this stone all it can and should be and is one you'll be proud to show in your own collection!

This is one of the few reasonably complete rounds I was able to obtain from this forest. The logs were actually imported by a friend that asked me to cut and polish some of the pieces to see how they might turn out. We were both pleased by the color and wood grain visible in logs that looked like they might be too soft to produce quality specimens just looking at the outside rind. I am offering some of the best specimens from those experiments to collectors that crave something new and exciting from the petrified wood found in less seldom encountered locations from around our planet. I hand picked the best specimens from the lot and then prepared them in my shop to produce true collector grade specimens. If the timeless mystery of this piece isn't enough for you, then I'm certain the simple, natural, gemmy beauty of it will be. The colors are high contrast and the wood grain is unique to this exotic species.

This round is cut from the center of a fairly solid log. It's really a nice piece, but what else would you expect from a business named "Sticks-in-Stones"?! We've applied all of our considerable lapidary skills to bring out a mirror finish and produce a specimen worthy of display in your own collection.

This nice medium sized specimen measures about 8 3/4" x 8 1/2" across the polished face and is cut about 1/2" thick. Weight is 2.46 lbs. Stands sold separately.
