This is arguably the fanciest and most showy McDermitt piece I've produced recently. This particular variety of the famed McDermitt petrified wood was found in a very small deposit in a remote part of the McDermitt caldera and shows significant weathering on the sides of the log. The weathered wood texture on the exterior is second only to the magnificent display of fossil wood structure and color preserved in gemstone grade agate revealed in the cut and mirror polished face. The color pattern you see here is quite unique and not typical of the McDermitt pieces. It revealed an incomplete log cut with the grain (rip cut) with easily visible growth rings creating flowing wood grain patterns in a mosaic pattern of color that just looks gorgeous in its finished state. This is a very highly agatized piece of petrified wood! The color is naturally wood toned and would make a wonderful, ancient and natural decorator piece in almost any setting. It took a very nice polish (you really won't believe how good until you see it!) and really does look great. Only Sticks-in-Stones can offer specimens so perfectly polished that they can reveal both their aesthetic beauty and their fossil secrets so flawlessly!
This is a really beautiful specimen of the petrified wood found in a desolate sagebrush desert that spans over 100 square miles on the Oregon/Nevada border. It's a slice from a perfectly preserved hardwood, with absolutely gorgeous gem quality agate in rich, dark colors preserving this ancient fossil. The inside is a richly colored array of gem quality agate that preserved the wood grain beautifully in every detail! The wood structure in this attractive fossil specimen is amazingly well preserved all the way through the log. This piece was found in a remote corner of the caldera while exploring - it's not from one of the more often dug sites.
This exceptional and unique sculpture comes from one of Oregon's premier petrified wood deposits known to collectors the world over. If you don't have a specimen from this area, this would be a dandy to get you acquainted!! This specimen has been carefully polished to show off all the gemmy detail inside. It took a beautiful polish and has excellent gem color! It's another one of those beautiful fossil treasures that some happy Sticks-in-Stones customer is going to flip over!
This truly unique sculpture measures about 8 1/4" x 4 1/2" wide across the polished face and is about 8 1/4" tall. It is about 2 3/4" thick at the base. Weight is 5.34 lbs.
What better way to accentuate a bookshelf or your mantle than with this unbelievable natural work of art!
