PERFECT 4 3/4 lb. Blue Forest Petrified Wood Log - Gorgeous Blue Agate in Fossil Wood!

Regular price $193.00

This is a virtually perfect example of a petrified log from Wyoming's Blue Forest! This famous petrified forest gives up very few logs these days and fewer still in this kind of flawless condition! The beautiful shape of this log reveals a perfect trunk section from the vertical stem of an average diameter fossil Schinoxylon (pepper tree). There is a lot of the characteristic blue agate infusing this specimen that made this petrified forest famous and a pocket of golden calcite as well. The main trunk has a thick coat of fossil algae that is itself infused with agate. It's a truly collectible museum piece and not the kind of thing that is found very often, let alone shared with collectors! The opposite end is cut flat (but unfinished) so that the specimen stands vertically. The pattern in this fossil is one of the most visually striking specimens you'll see come from this amazing valley! Look closely and you will see a small satellite stem from a branch on the periphery of the blue agate framing this amazing log! Polished to perfection, it's definitely one of the best Wyoming petrified wood fossil finds we have produced in months!!

Here's an absolutely museum grade Blue Forest petrified log sculpture prepared from a perfectly formed log that's got a lot of brilliantly colored blue agate showing throughout the delicately preserved log frozen inside. It's got really nice wood preservation with a very well defined heart in the center of the log and the most stunning color you'll ever see in one of these pieces!

The Blue Forest is a uniquely preserved bed of small branches and occasional logs in central Wyoming. The digging is hot and dusty, but every once in a while you stumble on a real treasure and this little log is one of them! The dark, coffee and chocolate colors the wood is preserved in are characteristic of these specimens, as are the infusions of blue agate that filled the cracks and coated the log!

This is a very nicely shaped log from what was likely an average sized pepper tree. It's been cut and polished to show off all the gemmy detail from this 50 million year old treasure captured inside. It took a pretty awesome polish - something we strive to produce on every specimen we put our name on! The fibrous cell structure of the radial wood grain is exceptional and easily studied with a hand lens.

This is a truly one-of-a-kind specimen, and it is close to perfect - something that will show proudly in any collection. It measures about 5 1/8" long. The polished face of the log measures about 4" x 3 3/8" in diameter. This fine sculpture weighs in at about 4.75 lbs.

A nice, unique naturally wonderful stone collectible exclusively from Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary
