These beautiful stones have a mirror perfect finish unmatched by any other available anywhere! This is a choice medium sized pair and one of our more naturally wood like sets of Petrified Wood bookends in beautiful natural wood tones. This is a petrified conifer, possibly a large juniper trunk with a fascinating rot cavity displayed in each face surrounded by gorgeous fossil agate. The rich brown color is typical of the fossil trees found in the vast McDermitt Caldera in the extreme south of what is now Oregon desert! The display face and outside edge are polished to a mirror finish while the back is cut smooth and unfinished. I just love the way the growth rings from both halves form natural arches! The wood is very well preserved in agate and polished to a beautiful mirror finish!! A truly gorgeous natural artwork millions of years in the making!
This gorgeous set of bookends is cut from one of my favorite varieties of petrified wood. This fossilized hardwood came from the famed McDermitt, Oregon, digs. This tree was a black ash tree before it was petrified. It's a petrified ring porous hardwood similar to locust & elm trees with exceptional growth ring preservation in a rich chocolate brown agate with a sandy cream colored rind and lots of other accent colors. This particular dig has some of the best petrified wood in the entire state and is often some of the best agatized wood. It looks (and is) porous between some of the growth rings, yet the wood is so well agatized overall that it takes a gorgeous, lustrous polish that only the best grades of petrified wood can achieve. It's a unique combination of "ancient" and "gemmy" unlike any other petrified wood we've cut!
We select only the showiest pieces of petrified wood and other gemstones to cut into bookends. These pieces are carefully cut in our shop so that you end up with a perfectly matched pair, one agate piece is the mirror image of the other. Of course, there are plenty of differences in the two halves, but the photo should let you appreciate how well we do this. The bookends sit perfectly upright and are completely square to one another. They are felted on both the sides and bottom to protect the books and the shelf. We make sure they are 100% functional on top of being beautiful! Of course, these agates proudly show the perfect polish that the Sticks-in-Stones rockshop has dedicated itself to. The finish looks poured on - but there's nothing there except rock!! This is the only set of bookends we have cut from this location so don't miss this fabulous natural treasure!
This is a nice medium sized set. Each half measures about 6 1/4" tall & 6" wide at the widest spot on the polished face. They're cut about 1 3/4" thick. Weight for this set is 8.5 lbs. which makes these bookends suitable for just about any sized book you have including the typical sized text book or cook books.
What better way to accentuate a bookshelf or your mantle than with this unbelievable natural work of art!
