This one is an absolute one of a kind specimen cut from what I can honestly say is one of the most colorful Hubbard Basin petrified logs I've handled in years! I loved the wood grain and color in this piece so much that I polished both faces! It's a significantly higher investment in the stone, but I think you'll agree that the end result was worth the extra effort! It's cut from a simply breathtaking blue, white, gold and black colored Hubbard Basin log. This is by far my favorite color habit for this petrified wood variety. It's this uniquely blue spectrum that makes Hubbard Basin petrified wood some of the most valued on the planet. The color in this one really looks like the photos astronomers capture of far away galaxies in distance reaches of the universe! Both sides show knots in the wood grain with the one side showing a very long spike knot that goes from the center to the top of the sculpture! The log face is very solid and gemmy and is preserved in the highest grade, densest agate you'll ever see petrified wood preserved in. It makes for one amazing fossil gemstone display! The growth rings form beautiful acrs among the splashes of color revealed in the mirror polished face of this ancient log. One of the deepest and most intense combinations of colors and wood growth structures I've seen in even the most colorful Hubbard Basin specimens I've offered! And if all of that color doesn't grab your attention, that antiquated, weathered wood exterior will. It looks like crumbling wood but is as hard and sharp as coral! This amazing piece of natural art is cut from a museum class petrified log with an amazing external weathered wood grain surface on the sides and two mirror polished faces. The base is cut flat to display just as shown in the photos. The more light you get into this highly translucent gemstone, the richer the colors get!! This mantle piece is really a remarkable natural treasure and essential artwork - one you'll be proud to show off! This is really an excellent, very high quality fossil specimen from Nevada's Hubbard Basin. The wood found there is some of the most colorful in the world, rivaling the popular Arizona specimens in color variety, but tending more toward blue & gold than red. They are superior to the Arizona specimens in wood grain preservation. This wood grain and color combination is unique in the petrified wood world and is what makes this location one of the most sought after among wood collectors. These pieces have a very high agate content so the specimens always take a fantastic polish that flashes like a mirror in the sunlight! This piece is high grade, even for Hubbard Basin - it has a really rich, dark blue agate with wispy golds & reds accented with spiderwebs of black! All of the color patterns accent the wood grain details that follow the growth rings of the original tree! There's even a few hints of other hues to really set the colors off! The agate is translucent enough that the colored mineral regions appear to form plumes that grow deep into this ancient fossil, disappearing down into the glassy surface. It's cut to stand erect and show the entire cross section of the log. It's a lot harder to do this and make it come out right but this one really shows off the wood in grand style! This stone has been professionally cut and polished on a special lap that produces a flat face and a mirror perfect shine. The polish really is liquid perfect - a difference in the quality products Sticks-in-Stones has built its reputation on! The base is cut flat and then the face is cut at a sloping angle to make for easy display. Our stand-ups are always cut from larger, heavier pieces of petrified wood that can safely be handled and not present any serious risk of breakage. This is a great, larger size, 3D display piece - would look great on a mantle or a desk. Measures about 9 1/2" x 8 1/2" across the mirror polished face and stands about 9 1/2" tall. It's a little over 2" thick at the base. Weight is about 7.84 lbs. Another Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary quality stone collectible from eBay's Original Rockshop!
