This is my favorite slab of Rocky Butte Picture Jasper I've ever had the pleasure of offering through my shop. It's cut from an extra large boulder that features a full picture pattern and some of the richest colors you'll ever see in jasper. It's hard not to look at this one and see a very angry storm! This is a real show piece suitable for permanent display in even the most advanced collections or selective decor! The stone is actually sturdy and substantial enough to be used as a serving platter but is equally at home on the wall as a work of natural art. The color is a lot richer than the photo managed to capture - a pleasing surprise awaits the new owner. Of course this slab has been polished to a mirror finish in our shop to bring all of that natural color and pattern to life!
One of the things that makes the winter rain so tolerable here in the great Pacific Northwest is the fact that we're virtually surrounded by some of the most dramatic, beautiful lapidary materials in the most incredible varieties you can imagine! One of my personal favorites are the scenic picture jaspers, many of which are found right here in Oregon. This particular variety is from a dig called Rocky Butte. It's one of the more impressive varieties and is often sought after for jewelry. It can have an incredible variety of landscape scenes formed from swirled patterns of red, tan, brown and blue. It's also an extremely hard jasper that takes a fabulous polish which is why it's most often cut into cabs and sold in custom jewelry designs. This piece is an extra large, gemmy slab cut from a large boulder of material that I've been waiting to cut for several years. I've polished it using my specially designed flat laps to produce a mirror perfect finish on a world class display specimen. It doesn't show in the photo of course, but the finish looks like the stone is wet! It really brings out the colors and patterns in a way you have to see in person to truly appreciate. This stone has been professionally cut and polished on a special lap that produces a flat face and a mirror perfect shine. The polish really is liquid perfect - a difference in the quality products Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary has built its reputation on! t's a choice slab that measures about 10" x 9 1/2" across the polished face. It's sliced about 1/2" thick. Weight is 3.36 lbs.
