SiS: INCREDIBLE Big 9" Blue Forest Petrified Wood - AGATE & CALCITE MASTERPIECE

Regular price $140.00

This is one of the best grades of Blue Forest petrified wood you'll ever see!  It really shows a lot of light blue agate both framing the log and filling in the desiccation splits that formed as the log dried before becoming petrified!!!  The largest agate zone filled an area where the log had partially decayed away before being petrified and the void is filled with gorgeous golden yellow calcite crystal. Several other areas filled the agate void with this same lovely gold crystal and they are all revealed in the perfectly mirror finished face!   It's not often you see a log this size in this deposit and to get one with so much agate and so much color is just a special treat!  This one is an unusual and nearly perfect specimen that is much larger than you'll typically find in this region.  If you've ever wanted a museum grade petrified wood specimen from Wyoming's famous Blue Forest, this is it!  It's a gorgeous specimen with a great shape and beautiful polish that will show nicely in any setting.

Here's an absolutely museum grade Blue Forest petrified round cut from the center of a perfectly formed log that's got it all. There's a lot of brilliantly colored blue agate framing the perfectly preserved log frozen inside. It's got really nice wood preservation throughout with a very well defined heart in the center of the log and the most stunning wood grain you'll ever see in one of these pieces! It's accented with more than its share of blue agate too! I'm amazed at the detail in the blue fortification agate that filled the voids around this log - the agate alone would make this a collector piece - coupled with the absolutely flawless petrified wood round inside it becomes a real collection centerpiece! What really makes this one unique however is the ring of bark that surrounds the log inside. I sometimes find rounds that have part of this ring, but in this very agatized specimen it surrounds the whole thing. Under magnification, the bark has visibly different cell structure than the rest of the pepperwood round shows - just amazing! The color is complemented with many different agate structures inside the generous agate filled voids between the bark and the log.

The Blue Forest is a uniquely preserved bed of small branches and occasional logs in central Wyoming. The digging is hot and dusty, but every once in a while you stumble on a real treasure and this little log is one of them! The dark, blue/black, coffee and chocolate colors the wood is preserved in are characteristic of these specimens, as are the infusions of blue agate that filled the cracks and coated the log!

This is a perfectly flat slice from the center of a larger than average sized log from a pepperwood tree. It's been cut and polished to show off all the gemmy detail from this 50 million year old treasure captured inside. It took a pretty awesome polish - something we strive to produce on every specimen we put our name on! The fibrous cell structure of the radial wood grain is exceptional and easily studied with a hand lens.

This is a nice, eye catching specimen, and it is close to perfect - something that will show proudly in any collection. Larger than most Blue Forest rounds, this one measures about 9" x 6" across the polished face and is sliced roughly 0.43" thick.  Weight is 1.50 lbs.

A nice, unique naturally wonderful stone collectible exclusively from Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary.
