SiS: Hampton Butte AGATE CAST & Petrified Wood Bookends - ASTONISHING CRYSTALS!

Regular price $139.00

This is a very unusual and really beautiful find from one of Oregon's most famous petrified wood and agate collecting spots - Hampton Butte, Oregon!  This is the region that produces Oregon's famous "green wood" and this particular stone is one of the most unusual variations in those shades of green I've ever seen!  Most of the log was replaced by a giant fortification agate that's revealed beautifully in the cut and mirror polished faces of these bookends.  The telltale green rind of the original log is visible on the outer edge and one small patch of wood structure are visible towards the vertical top edge of each stone.  But the vast majority of the interior is a gorgeous and dramatic mineral spray crystal formation.  I am not sure if this is a pseudomorph or native crystal, but the cut sprays polished nicely and still reveal a small cavity of crystal points in a geode near the bottom.  This is easily one of the most dramatic sets of this stone I've cut in many years - and the color and luster are far better than the washed out photo even begins to hint at.  This is one beautifully mirror polished agate!  This set is mostly all agate cast with relatively little wood structure left in the stone.  I've never seen one that looked quite like this.  What a lovely and dramatic set of bookends!

One of the most uniquely colored petrified wood deposits in the world is near Hampton Butte in Central Oregon. This location is famous for "Oregon Green Wood". We've collected some exceptional "green wood" from collections that originated near this site over the last few years and I've recently prepared some choice ones. This is one of my favorite materials to use in bookends as it is so richly colored and every set is completely different from the last. This wood is actually a cast replacement (in most cases) of the log after it rotted int he ground and the void was filled with other colorful jaspers and agates.  In some rare instances the wood petrified (at least partially) and you can make out the cell structure of what are usually large conifers.

We select only the largest and showiest pieces of petrified wood to cut into bookends. These pieces are carefully cut in our shop so that you end up with a perfectly matched pair, one agate piece is the mirror image of the other. Of course, there are plenty of differences in the two halves, but the photo should let you appreciate how well we do this. The bookends sit perfectly upright and are completely square to one another. They are felted on both the sides and bottom to protect the books and the shelf. We make sure they are 100%25 functional on top of being beautiful! Of course, these agates proudly show the perfect polish that the Sticks-in-Stones rockshop has dedicated itself to. The finish looks poured on - but there's nothing there except rock!!

This is a nice, larger sized set. Each half measures about 7" tall & about 5 1/2" wide across the polished face. They're cut about 1 3/4" thick. Weight for this set is about 7.58 lbs. which makes these bookends suitable for novels, text books or just about any sized book you have.

What better way to accentuate a bookshelf or your mantle than with this unbelievable natural work of art from eBay's Original Rockshop! Good luck!
