This rarely seen, dramatic petrified wood specimen comes from Montana's Tom Miner Basin area. Like most of the wood in this region, it is based in a beautiful jet black and is very finely preserved, revealing perfectly contoured growth rings and fibrous structure in amazing detail. Under magnification you can see that the growth rings contain the resin canals and growth structure of an ancient pine tree! This is a particularly gemmy set. It is infused with agate to transform what was once a giant conifer tree to create this magnificent, 100% natural gemstone display! I found a nice sized piece of this amazing and rarely seen petrified wood in the bottom of my pile from an estate purchase I made decades ago and the stone produced one last great set of bookends from it! This is another one of those pieces that is far better in person than the photo can capture!! This is some of the most striking and beautiful wood grain you'll come across and it's a rare one to boot. The mirror finish in the dark face produces a true mirror that reflects back without flaws to really show what sets our lapidary work apart from all the rest! It shows off the detail of this finely preserved conifer with amazing clarity. Photographed in direct sunlight, they appear darker with indoor light. They just have to be seen to be believed!
Here's an absolutely gorgeous, petrified wood bookend set cut from a very large log found in Montana. This fossilized wood now turned stone is virtually flawless and shows incredible structural preservation. The face was carefully prepared and meticulously polished to produce a mirror finish that really brings to life all the incredible color variety in this beautiful round! I don't know for certain what species this tree was but it is a conifer lacking resin canals which suggests something like a fir tree. Both the polish and the growth rings are amazing and work together to create a truly unique collector piece.
