It's been a while since we've had any of this showy material and a quarter of a century since we've even seen a nodule large enough to cut a display specimen this big! Here's a great slab of one of the more interesting opaque stones we work with - Leopardskin Jasper! This giant slab has all of the pattern that earned this stone it's name with a combination of spots and stripes that really do appear to be natures attempt at colorful camouflage! This one has all of the classic shades as well with yellow, red, green and purple dominating the entire face of the highly polished stone. We've lapped and polished this into a world class display specimen ready for your cabinet!
This is a really nice slab of Leopardskin Jasper from some of the best old stock of this material you'll ever stumble across! As you can see from the photo, this stone is completely dominated by bright reds, pinks & greens with bold stripes and well defined spots. This is the beautiful pattern that earned this stone its name! This is hard stone that took an excellent polish. While they share the same name, this stone really deserves to be distinguished from the material that is sold under the name "Leopardskin" today. All of it comes from the same mine in Mexico, but the the modern stuff is quite soft, usually pink and more mottled than spotted. This old stock material is rarely seen, though this was the high quality, hard material that got the mine started. This stone is usually cut into jewelry and beads can still be found, but large nodules with good pattern for specimens are pretty much a thing of the past. This is a great chance at a rockhound classic that has been prepared the way it should be!
This slab was cut and polished on a proprietary flat lap to bring out all that gorgeous color! It's ready for framing, mounting or display in an easel. This is a bigger sized slab. It measures about 9" x 8 3/4" wide across the widest point and is 0.46" thick. Weight is 2.42 lbs.A nice, unique naturally wonderful stone collectible exclusively from Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary!
