This is one of the best grades of Blue Forest petrified wood you'll ever see particularly in an above average sized specimen! It really shows a lot of light blue agate both framing the log and filling in the desiccation splits that formed as the log dried before becoming petrified!!! The largest agate zone filled an area where the log had partially decayed away before being petrified and the void is filled with gorgeous golden yellow calcite crystal. Several other areas filled the agate void with this same lovely gold crystal and they are all revealed in the perfectly mirror finished face! It's not often you see a log this size in this deposit and to get one with so much agate and so much color is just a special treat! This one is an unusual and nearly perfect specimen that is much larger than you'll typically find in this region. If you've ever wanted a museum grade petrified wood specimen from Wyoming's famous Blue Forest, this is it! It's a gorgeous specimen with a great shape and beautiful polish that will show nicely in any setting!

The Blue Forest is a uniquely preserved bed of small branches and occasional logs in central Wyoming. The digging is hot and dusty, but every once in a while you stumble on a real treasure and this little log is one of them! The dark, coffee and chocolate colors the wood is preserved in are characteristic of these specimens, as are the infusions of blue agate that filled the cracks and coated the log!
This is a perfectly flat slice from the center of larger than average sized log from a pepperwood tree. It's been cut and polished to show off all the gemmy detail from this 50 million year old treasure captured inside. It took a pretty awesome polish - something we strive to produce on every specimen we put our name on! The fibrous cell structure of the radial wood grain is exceptional and easily studied with a hand lens.
