Crazy Colorful PURPLE 12"+ Madagascar Petrified Wood Round w/ GEODE CAVITY!

Regular price $364.00

This is an unbelievably colorful, naturally purple shaded slab cut from a choice petrified wood log from Madagascar! The saw blade intersected a pair of hollow cavities in the log that were almost certainly from rot that happened in the log before it was petrified. The cavities are lined with gorgeous, dark, sparkling drusy crystals that really make for an incredible work of natural art! The vast majority of the petrified logs found in Madagascar are very neutrally colored with a lot of simple earth tones, but this one tiny deposit is producing some of the most amazingly brilliant, colorful agate wood I've seen from anywhere on the planet! It took me a few years to cut this log and I had no idea this kind of color was hidden inside based on the few clues visible on the ends. It is one of the best Madagascar slabs we've produced in years and if you've been following our work from this amazing forest you know that is really saying something! The incredible color variations preserved in the wood grain are unmatched by any log I've cut from this forest and that purple shade is something I've only seen from this one deposit. The contrast between the interior colors and the rich color in the outer growth is just beautiful. And the antiquated, weathered rind of the log complete it as a true museum piece. You won't find a better Madagascar slab anywhere and you'll be hard pressed to find any petrified wood that rivals the beauty of this astonishing piece! Of course we've polished it to a mirror finish in our shop to really show it off and provide a collection centerpiece for you. We've just about exhausted our supply of these rare but wonderful purple specimens, so don't miss a chance at a nice one while we have them!
This gorgeous, absolutely choice petrified wood round is the latest in a series of really nice, very colorful rounds that we've cut from some short logs we obtained last year in Tucson. This round isn't the typical Pacific Northwest treasure that we specialize in either. It's kind of a long story, but hey, this is a Sticks-in-Stones write-up after all :-)

A few years ago I met some young men that were just starting to import stone from Madagascar. They had been mining petrified logs (among other gemstones) in a remote part of the country, and the logs that they were unloading from their truck were far more colorful than anything I'd seen from this vast petrified forest previously. I ended up purchasing several of them in the hopes that they would cut some nice bookends. I was completely blown away the first time I opened the saw and found this incredible color waiting for my eyes to see! The following year I purchased more of the logs from these guys and cut still more amazing specimens and some of the most colorful bookends I've ever had the pleasure of working on. The wood is very hard and takes a magnificent polish, and the color just seems to keep getting better! Each slab came out nearly perfect with very little of the fracturing you see in the more common grades of petrified wood from this forest. It really is that different, and that gorgeous! In this case I've cut one of the most colorful rounds yet and prepared it with a mirror finish, ready for your cabinet to show off all of that completely natural color in this ancient gem fossil. The heart is clearly visible and there are several crystal lined cavities that open up on the surface. It's a striking Madagascar wood round sure to enhance any collection! .

It's just amazing how beautiful petrified wood can be and this fine specimen found halfway around the world shows to what lengths people will go to bring these treasures to market! If you don't own a top grade piece form this increasingly important deposit yet in your own collection, this is your chance.
